We implement cultural research to surface local culture, stories and identities
What´s the
Local culture and identities remain silenced in Camiguin. The island is plenty of beautiful untold stories and folklore (such a local proverbs, legends, rituals and beliefs) that deserved to be documented and surfaced. They are the heart of the cultural identity of the island. Both, locals and visitors need to access to it”.
What´s the
Kilaha, in coordination with Museo de Oro of Xavier University and the Provincial government of Camiguin, has developed a long term program named “Surfacing the untold stories of Camiguin Island” which aims to document and make visible local culture and history. We have advocated for the need to implement cultural research as well as the establishment of a local museum. As part of the program, we have conducted an Archaeological and Archive survey. Kilaha is member of the Local Council of Culture and Arts.
The main finding of Kilaha & Museo de Oro archaeological survey is the need to make further research. There are still many questions without answers when it comes to the history of the island. Currently Kilaha & Museo de Oro have designed a holistic ethno-history research of Camiguin. The research proposal combines an archival, ethnographic and archaeological components. Based on the findings from this in-depth cultural research, Kilaha will carry out trainings to local teachers and tourist guides as well as to provide evidence and materials to the Provincial museum”.
